Meditations by Michael J. Leamy

Higher Ground

The greatest Teacher of all time used illustrations from daily life to anchor spiritual truth in the minds of His hearers. Following that teaching style, the author endeavors to use experiences, observations and events, some common, some rarely noticed, to segue into pathways of scriptural truth. Some of the meditations in this series look to the higher plane to which believers are called, following the thought in Psalm 123:1: “I will lift up my eyes on You, O Dweller in Heaven.” Others look to the chaos through which our pilgrimage leads us, and to the sufficiency of God's grace, as the Apostle Paul admonished: “Then watch how carefully you walk, not as unwise, but as wise ones, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Still others take that backward glance, considering with thankful hearts the plight from which we have been rescued, as the prophet Isaiah wrote: “Hear Me, pursuers of righteousness, seekers of Jehovah: Look to the rock from which you were cut, and to the hollow of the pit from which you were dug.” As you read, be encouraged, be edified, be admonished, but, as the Apostle Paul mentioned, be Berean: “And these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, for they received the Word with all readiness, daily examining the Scriptures if these things are so.” These meditations are hors d'oeuvres. The banquet is in the Word.

Quest for the White Robin, by Michael J. Leamy

Quest for the

White Robin

Emotional distress arises from a variety of causes. Anna was uprooted by a move to a distant town. Connor's activity was limited by an injury that refused to heal. Carli waited for new feet. Each withdrew from social contacts, into prolonged self-pity. Each encountered Grandma Scoggins, and each was sent on a search for a rare white robin. Was there magic in that misfit bird? How could a glimpse of a creature, so different from its peers, change even one of these suffering in isolation? Join the quest for the white robin, and discover its magic.

Sometimes Rhythm, Sometimes Rhyme, Sometimes both, sometimes neither

Michael Leamy views the fabric of life through a writer's eyes, and the eyes of faith that see both the blessing of beauty and God's grace that carries us over the rugged stretches. He and his wife, Lynda, invite the reader to touch the rhythmic heartbeat of life in this selection of varied verses, and perhaps be stirred to contemplate things beneath the surface of the obvious, and, as his father used to emphasize, “See everything there is to see!” Pause in the hurry of the journey, look around, and notice the beauty bits that garnish whatever is before you.

Clay Baby

Rowlanda's search for her biological mother spanned decades. Her stormy upbringing etched emotional scars that impacted relationships throughout her life. Echoes from her early years colored her view of herself and others: "And you!" Clay cowered to the bottom step. “I'm determined to make a lady out of you if it kills me, and it probably will." A small whine slithered through her next words. "Just look at me, only thirty-six years old and I look dead and laid out. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have my headache every day. I wouldn't look like a corpse." She raised her hands from her hips and the child ducked. “I saw you from the window," she accused as she stepped to the edge of the porch to measure out an ultimatum. "I'll make you wish you'd never been born if I ever hear you squeal like that again. And I'll nail you to the cross the next time I see you mess up your daddy's hair. You've got the nature of a common woman, and I'm goin' to conquer it. Do you hear me..?” Walk with her through school days, Navy days, farm days. Through Idaho wilderness travels searching for a place to hide. To a remote farm in the Oregon hills. Grow with her to acceptance of her own personhood, and to the compassionate ability to reach out to others who were rejected.
